Sensorineural hearing loss as the first manifestation of Sjögren's syndrome.

چکیده
introduction Dysfunction of inner ear, vestibulocochlear nerve or central brain processing centers leads to sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). Autoimmune inner ear disease (AIED) is a rare but potentially treatable cause of hearing loss, characterized by progressive evolution over weeks to months.1 In 1958, an antigen-antibody reaction was described in 13 patients with progressive bilateral SNHL,2 and later, in 1979, the term autoimmune SNHL was proposed after an idiopathic bilateral progressive SNHL had markedly improved with steroids therapy.3 Since there are no defined diagnostic criteria for AIED, it remains a diagnosis of exclusion, supported by clinical suspicion and responsiveness to corticotherapy. About one third of the cases of AIED is secondary to a systemic autoimmune disease and may, rarely, be the first manifestation of the latter.4,5

Cornelia De Lange Syndrome and Cochlear Implantation
Introduction: Literature regarding the different degrees of hearing loss in patients with Cornelia de Lange syndrome (CDLS) reports that half of the affected patients exhibit severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss. We present the first pre-school child with CDLS who underwent cochlear implantation for congenital profound sensorineural hearing loss. Case Report: A 3-year-old boy with CD...
متن کاملHearing loss evaluation of Sjögren's syndrome using distortion product otoacoustic emissions.
Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is a cell-mediated immune disorder primarily affecting the exocrine glands and hearing loss may be the first otological manifestation of this autoimmune disease. In order to assess the degree of sensorineural hearing loss in SS, 22 female patients were examined by means of standard audiometric tests (pure-tone audiometry, acoustic reflexes and impedance testing) and usin...
متن کاملSudden Bilateral Sensorineural Hearing Loss Following Postpartum Hemorrhage: A Case Report
AbstractThe prevalence of bilateral sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) is less than 5% and the etiology of most cases is unknown. Due to many structural and functional similarities between the kidney and inner ear, many conditions, diseases, and drugs have both renal and cochlear effects and toxicities. There are several reports of SSNHL in patients with CRF, uraemic patient, hemodialysi...
متن کاملPseudoexfoliation Syndrome and Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Introduction: Pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PXS) occurs due to the deposition of extracellular fibrillar materials on the anterior chamber of the eye. This syndrome has been considered to be part of a systemic disease with the potential involvement of the inner ear called sensoroneural hearing loss (SNHL). In this study, we aimed on evaluating SNHL within PXS patients in Iran to compare them wi...
متن کاملTherapeutic effect of Intra-Tympanic Dexamethasone–Hyaluronic Acid Combination in Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Introduction: Hearing loss is fairly a common disorder which is usually treated with corticosteroids via systemic administration and/or intra-tympanic injection. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of intra-tympanic injections of dexamethasone with its combination with hyaluronic acid in patients with sudden sensorineural hearing loss. Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial, ...
